Fairwood Principal Romander updates the school community at an assembly

Each week at Fairwood Explorer Elementary, students are recognized not just for what they achieve, but for who they are. The school’s Community Assembly is a meaningful time to celebrate students, share updates, and bring families and staff together. As Principal Rachelle Romander notes, “Our community assembly provides an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and bring the community together with a shared vision.”

The assembly serves as a hub for important announcements, insight into what the school is working on, and information about upcoming school or community events.

Most importantly, it is a time to recognize student achievements:

  • Each week, different students from kindergarten through fifth grade earn certificates for positive character traits that contribute to a vibrant school community.
  • Every trimester, the school celebrates students for academic excellence or growth.
  • Twice a year, the community recognizes students who have reclassified as English proficient.
  • At the end of the school year, a favorite tradition is counting the collective number of Spirit Cards that students have earned for being safe, responsible, and kind. They are poured into a shared bin, and students see if they have all achieved a shared, fun goal—this year, sliming the principal!

This sense of celebration and connection is present whether families attend in person or join virtually.
