Sunnyvale School District uses a digital platform to manage school volunteers Better Impact For Schools!

 VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

• Create a user account at the Better Impact For Schools website  
• Submit your digital volunteer application
• Upload a valid TB clearance
• Get fingerprinted and cleared by the Department of Justice
• Complete online Mandated Reporter training
• Renew online application each school year

All volunteers must be approved BEFORE you are able to start volunteering. Volunteer clearance is only valid for the current school year.  You must login to your account submit a new application each school year.  

MANDATED VOLUNTEER TRAINING:

• Create username, fill out first name, last  name, and email address, click REGISTER
• Go to My Assignments page
• Open Mandated Reporter Child Abuse and Neglect and complete the course (about 1 hr)
• Change language if needed
• Save a copy of your certificate of completion and upload to Better Impact

TB TESTS:

• TB test results are valid for four years. 
• Each TB test must show the following:
  • Name of volunteer
  • Date test given
  • Date test read
  • Induration of reading
  • Test result
• If you are submitting a TB risk assessment form
  • Must include the questionnaire page and 
  • Must include the doctor signature and Health Care Provider Name and Address 
  • TB Risk Assessment Form
• Incomplete TB tests will result in a delay in the process.

FINGERPRINTING:

All volunteers must be fingerprinted and give Sunnyvale School District access to the records. You will need to take a photo I.D. and Social Security Number along with the Sunnyvale School District Fingerprinting Form to a facility to be fingerprinted.

**Note: If you have previously been fingerprinted with the Sunnyvale School District, you do not need to repeat this process. However, if you have been fingerprinted with another agency you will need to be fingerprinted. Please click here to download the Sunnyvale School District Fingerprinting Form. 

APPROVAL PROCESS:

• After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation of submission email. This is not an approval.
• The volunteer approval process starts at the District Office. They will review your form, your TB clearance, fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice, and sign off that you have completed the Mandated Reporter training.  
• Once a week Ms. Randi pulls a report to find, approve, and notify new volunteers.
• The process may take up to four weeks. Please plan accordingly.  Forms cannot be expedited.  

AFTER YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED:

• Please contact your child’s teacher to receive further instruction on your volunteer assignment.
